Bayern back on top in Germany with late winner at Leverkusen

A last-minute goal by Robert Lewandowski took Bayern Munich back to the top of the Bundesliga after beating Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 on Saturday.
Two days after being crowned as FIFA's best male player, Lewandowski made the difference against Leverkusen with one goal to level the score and the winner in the final seconds of added time.
Neither goal was highlight-reel material — opposition blunders played essential roles — but it was enough to overhaul Leverkusen, which had gone unbeaten as they emerged as the surprise league leader.
The win was testament to Bayern's ability to play their way out of trouble. It was the seventh Bundesliga game in a row in which the German champion has come back to earn points after conceding the opening goal. Bayern went two points clear of Leverkusen and Leipzig at the top.

Gladbach's Thuram sent off after spitting in opponent's face

Berlin (AFP) – Borussia Moenchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram was sent off for spitting in an opponent’s face during Saturday’s 2-1 home defeat against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
The France forward was shown a straight red card with 11 minutes left, which turned the game after the VAR spotted Thuram spitting at the visitors’ defender Stefan Posch.
“You can’t do something like that – that’s hard to explain,” Gladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer said, while team-mate Valentino Lazaro admitted Thuram’s dismissal was what “broke us”.
The incident happened just after Andrej Kramaric had equalised for the away side at Borussia Park.

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI UNDERLINED  his status as Fifa player of the year with both goals, the second coming just before the final whistle, as European champions Bayern Munich went top of the Bundesliga on Saturday with a 2-1 win at Bayer Leverkusen, who they usurped to first place.
Having beaten Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to the award on Thursday, Lewandowski claimed the winner after 93 minutes at the BayArena.
