Frick Park Tavern in Regent Square set to reopen; owner seeks employees

Jimmy Brown knows what he wants for his birthday customers.
“That would be the best present,” said Brown, who owns the Frick Park Tavern on Braddock Avenue in Regent Square which has been closed since December. “I think people are ready to come back.”
Brown plans on opening doors to the restaurant on April 14. He turns 41 that day.
The plan is to offer dinner hours to start. The restaurant will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Brown made the decision to close even before Gov. Tom Wolf shut down indoor dining the final three weeks of December because of the pandemic. His food sales had been steadily declining all summer, he said, and carried into the sale of alcohol which he said fell by by 10-15%. ....

Even before Gov. Tom Wolf announced new covid-19 orders on Thursday, Jimmy Brown planned to temporarily close his Regent Square restaurant.
“It doesn’t make sense to stay open the way things are,” said Brown, owner of the Frick Park Tavern on Braddock Avenue. “We are a sit-down and enjoy kind of restaurant, and people haven’t been able to do that. Our guests come here to enjoy the space, to relax and have a drink and a good meal.” ....

PITTSBURGH, PA Nick Bogacz isn t worried about his award-winning pizzeria chain getting by during the state s latest coronavirus mitigation measures that will ban indoor dining in restaurants for three weeks.
He s worried about his employees.
I feel horrible for our bartenders and servers, said Bogacz, owner of Caliente Pizza and Draft House locations in Bloomfield, Aspinwall, Monroeville, Hampton and Mt. Lebanon.
They were counting on tips for Christmas, Bogacz said. That s how they make their living, that s how they survive.it s not just the financial aspect, it s the mental anguish as well. ....
