La Keisha Neal has a new blessing to celebrate this Mother s Day. Her son, Daelin Hayes, is a proud member of the Ravens 2021 draft class.
When Hayes was selected in the fifth round, the outside linebacker from Notre Dame made a point of telling the media that his mother deserved much of the credit for making his NFL dream possible.
My mother had me at 19 years old, in college, and the world told her not to, Hayes said. She had to figure that out on her own, and she sacrificed a lot of her youth to give me and my brothers the lifestyle so that we could be here to chase our dreams, to have different educational opportunities, to be able to go to a place like Notre Dame and flourish, and that wouldn t have been possible without her sacrifice. ....

NOTRE DAME, Indiana University of Notre Dame defensive lineman Daelin Hayes has been named a semifinalist for the 2020 Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award. The award recognizes college football student-athletes each season from all divisions of college football for overcoming injury or illness. Hayes is one of 14 semifinalists.
The graduate student returned to the college football field after a season-ending injury suffered as a senior. He dislocated his shoulder, on which he had endured two previous surgeries in high school. With significant damage to the labrum, joint capsule and bone, Hayes required surgery and began the rehab process. ....

NOTRE DAME, Indiana University of Notre Dame graduate student defensive lineman Daelin Hayes was selected as one of three finalists for the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Award, honoring a Division I football player who has demonstrated a record of leadership by exhibiting exceptional courage, integrity and sportsmanship both on and off the field.
Hayes, a team captain and recently named the winner of the Freddie Solomon Community Spirit Award, has taken a leading role in the program in speaking out on racial injustice and inequality. He serves as part of the program’s unity council, which has undertaken initiatives like registering the entire team to vote in November. He has also served as a voice for those efforts and a commitment to health and safety, joining programs like NBC’s The Today Show to speak on behalf of the team. ....
