Nathaniel Kim said he misses seeing his friends and feeling safe hanging out with them.
“There’s really not much you can do with your friends, so if we do get everyone vaccinated we’ll definitely have a nicer time that we can just have hanging out with our friends as opposed to just being completely in our rooms or doing things outside,” he said. “Also just like not worrying about getting sick too.”
Kim, a pre-med student, sits on the Student Senate COVID safety and vaccine committee. He along with his co-chair Annamaria Walden are working on educating students about the safety of the vaccine.  ....

Union to host in-person commencement for Class of 2021

The College has announced plans to host an in-person commencement ceremony for the Class of 2021 at 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 13, on Hull (Library) Plaza.
Nearly 500 students are expected to receive degrees during Union’s 227th Commencement, which will be held outdoors rain or shine.
All graduates will be required to follow appropriate health and safety measures in accordance with New York state guidance. This includes proof of a negative COVID-19 test and/or a completed vaccination series (at least 14 days beyond the last vaccine), masking and physical distancing.
Due to limits on crowd size, each student will be allowed two tickets for family and friends to watch the celebration, which will be broadcast at outdoor, on-campus satellite locations. The ceremony will also be livestreamed for off-campus audiences. ....

My young daughter knows what it means when I get the “Do you have a minute?” text from Dean Fran’Cee. When I return from the phone call I make in response, she asks, “Another positive?”
So I knew it was bad news on a recent Saturday morning when Fran’Cee Brown-McClure, Union College’s vice president for student affairs, skipped the text and just called me, the institution’s president. On the last day of testing, at the end of our first week of winter term, 12 students on our campus had tested positive for COVID-19. That brought our total number of student positives for the term to 51, about twice the number we experienced during all of fall term. ....
