The City of Plainview Unger Memorial Chief Librarian Cynthia Peterson was chosen to serve as the Vice-Chair of the Texas Library Association Lariat Committee. Peterson currently completed her first year of a three-year board term, according to a news release from the city.
The committee is tasked with creating the Lariat Adult Fiction Reading List. Since 2009, the goal of the List is to highlight outstanding fiction that is simply “a pleasure to read.” Each year, 25 outstanding fiction titles are selected by the nine-member Lariat committee.
“Selecting books for the Unger Library is part of my job and the committee was a natural fit,” said Peterson. “It allowed me the opportunity to read a variety of books I wouldn’t normally read and offer a larger variety to our patrons.” ....

The City of Plainview will offer Loan-A-Tub tree disposal sites through Jan. 8. Those who want to discard of their Christmas trees can do so in the green containers located at 200 N. Columbia or in one of the yellow Loan-A-Tubs at the corners of 16th and Holiday, 2nd and Columbia, 18th and Galveston and Garland and Kermit Streets. The tubs will be removed on Jan. 8 but residents who have a tree to dispose of after that date can still do so by dropping it in the green containers or at the Landfill. The Landfill is open Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. It’s located at 1031 County Road Y. Call (806)296-1100 for additional information. ....

City of Plainview offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday in observance of the holidays. City of Plainview offices will be closed part of next week and the following week in observance of the holidays.
Administration offices including Unger Memorial Library, the Plainview/Hale County Health Department and the Solid Waste Department (Landfill) will be closed Dec. 24 and 25 and Jan. 1.
The library will also be closed Dec. 19 and 26 and Jan. 2.
The Landfill will open Dec. 24 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and Dec. 26 for regular business hours (8 a.m.-6 p.m.). Residential and commercial routes are anticipated to run as normal except on the holidays.
