Amtrak is asking Congress for funds as a part of the president s infrastructure bill to extend passenger rail service up the coast to Rockland, but cities in central Maine, including the state capital, would be left out.
Amtrak has proposed extending its Downeaster passenger rail service to Rockland, which is located north on the coast from Brunswick and Portland. The train currently carries riders from Brunswick to Boston.
Amtrak officials are hoping Congress will provide the $80 billion designated for rail in Biden’s American Jobs Plan, they said in an announcement on March 31. ....

Natasha Bedingfield’s biggest hit, “Unwritten,” has been turned into the latest dance craze on TikTok, with the songstress joining in on the fun Friday.
In a TikTok duet, the singer, 39, posted a clip of herself dancing to a remix of the 2004 song edited beside a clip of a group of girls giving viewers the same moves.
“The essence of Unwritten is about how wonderful, unexpected things can happen at any moment, and these tik tok dances I keep seeing recently couldn’t be more wonderful and unexpected,”she wroteon her social media pages.
“It’s a real joy to attempt to keep up (even if I make a fool of myself!),” she continued. “I’m working my way up to the badass moves that @rony boyy first did to the @thereal esco.upp sound. AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A Maine lawmaker has introduced a proposal to limit annoying text messages from political campaigns and advocacy groups.
Democratic Sen. Joe Rafferty of Kennebunk put the proposal before the Maine Legislature s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee. He said he was motivated to make the proposal after he was “barraged on a daily basis with text, spam calls and emails” last fall.
Rafferty s proposal is designed to “change the rules of engagement, consent and personal data shared between groups who participate in mass text campaigns and those they are sending texts to,” the Maine Legislature Senate Majority Office said in a statement. ....

AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) A Maine lawmaker has proposed the creation of a new program designed to help more recent graduates remain in the state.
Maine has one of the oldest populations in the country, and state leaders have identified a need to retain younger residents. Democratic Rep. Morgan Rielly of Westbrook has proposed legislation to create a program called the “Maine Service Fellows Program” that would address that.
Rielly said the program would allow its fellows to work in rural communities. Rielly said the communities “have proposed recovery project plans to address local needs, including, but not limited to, projects focused on the economic fallout and ongoing issues stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.” ....
