Guwahati, May 6 : The number of elected MLAs with criminal cases and crorepatis (millionaire) increased by over 10 per cent in the recent Assam assembly elections compared to the 2016 polls, data analysis revealed.
The Assam Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 126 winning candidates and found that 27 per cent winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves this time against 11 per cent last time. The analysis said that 34 winning candidates have declared criminal cases against themselves this time against 14 MLAs in 2016. The report said that 28 (22 per cent) winning candidates have declared serious criminal cases related to murder, attempt to murder, crimes against women. ....

Assam elected more moneyed candidates and those with criminal cases in the recently concluded Assembly elections than in 2016.
Data analysed by Assam Election Watch (AEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms revealed 34 of the 126 candidates who won had declared criminal cases against them compared with 14 five years ago. ....

New Delhi, April 3 : The average assets of 90 re-contesting MLAs fielded by various political parties in Assam, including Independent nominees, grew by 76 per cent in the last five years between 2016 and 2021 a hike of around Rs 1.91 crore according to the data released by Assam Election Watch and the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).
Of these 90 MLAs, three BJP leaders are in the top five list showing maximum increase in assets, followed by one from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) and another from the Bodoland People s Front. ....
