Patricia Baillie

Patricia Baillie, known as Trish passed away on May 19, 2021 at the age of 70 years.
A native of the Thunder Bay area, Trish grew up horseback riding and shared that passion with her family throughout her life. She was a nurse at St Joseph s care group and Dawson Court before retiring in 2008. Trish moved to Atikokan after retirement where she found community connections at the Royal Canadian Legion Br 145 and the Church of the Good Shepherd. She also found great joy in the community garden and shared her love for gardening with her family and friends.
Trish will be lovingly remembered by her brothers Greg(Susan), and Douglas; her former spouse and lifelong friend, William (Bill) Richardson; her children Adam (Amy), Laura (Tyson), Kerri (James) and Leah (Mike). She will also be fondly remembered and sadly missed by her 7 grandchildren Will, Aroura, Devin, Colson, McKenna, Erick and Ian. She is predeceased by her brother, Bobby Baillie. ....

Funding will upgrade ventilation in area LTC homes

The Rainycrest long-term care home in Fort Frances is the largest beneficiary of new federal-provincial LTC funding.
THUNDER BAY – Four long-term care homes in northwestern Ontario will see improvements to their ventilation systems, thanks to millions in new federal-provincial funding.
Four LTC homes in Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Rainy River, and Atikokan will receive a total of $5.6 million for the upgrades, the governments announced Friday in a joint announcement.
The federal government will contribute $4.5 million of that, while the province will kick in roughly $1.1 million.
The majority of the funding will go to upgrade HVAC and other ventilation systems, as well as sprinkler systems, the governments stated. ....

Northwestern Health Unit reports three COVID-19 cases

SIOUX LOOKOUT, Ont. – The Northwestern Health Unit reported three new COVID-19 cases Sunday, involving individuals in its Rainy River and Kenora regions.
The health unit reported one new confirmed case in the Kenora region and two in the Rainy River District, which has reported a recent surge of cases.
The region accounted for 24 of the health unit’s 28 active cases as of Friday, the last time the agency updated its public data.
Both regions encompass over a dozen communities; a full list is available on the NWHU website.
“For reasons of privacy, NWHU minimizes sharing the information about the location of COVID-19 test results,” the health unit reiterated on Facebook as it announced the new cases. ....
