FORT LEE, Va. (May 3, 2021) – Sydney A. Smith was inducted into the Senior Executive Service and at the same time became the new Army Logistics University president during a ceremony April 30 at the Army Logistics University green auditorium.
She is poised to oversee the university’s mission of providing professional education and leader development for military and civilian logisticians and related professionals from the Army, joint, interagency and international communities, to include sustainment and logistics, operations research, and acquisition leader education and training programs.
A native of Abingdon, Smith was selected for the SES in April. She replaced Michael K. Williams, who died May 27, 2020. ....

A U.S. Army soldier who died in a non-combat vehicle accident in Kuwait on Monday has now been identified.
Staff Sgt. Anthony Bermudez, 28, from Dallas, Texas, died in the vehicle accident during a routine troop movement near Camp Buehring, Kuwait, according to an Army statement provided to American Military News.
Bermudez was assigned to Area Support Group – Kuwait, along with two other soldiers who were injured in the accident.
One soldier was transported to Al Jahra Hospital in Kuwait, and later transported to U.S. Military Hospital-Kuwait where they remain in stable condition. The second injured soldier, who was driving the vehicle, was transported to U.S. Military Hospital-Kuwait with “non-serious injuries,” and released on Tuesday. ....

US service member killed in vehicle accident in Kuwait

A U.S. service member was killed and two others were injured in a vehicle accident in Kuwait earlier this week, the Army announced Wednesday.
The “non-combat related vehicle accident” happened Monday near Camp Buehring during a routine troop movement at approximately 8 a.m. local time, according to a service statement.
Staff Sgt. Anthony Bermudez, 28, from Dallas, Texas, was killed while the two injured troops, including the driver of the vehicle, were taken to U.S. Military Hospital – Kuwait. The driver was later discharged Tuesday after treatment for nonserious injuries and the injured passenger is listed as in stable condition. ....

One soldier died and two others were injured during a routine troop movement near Camp Buehring, Kuwait, at about 8 a.m. on Jan. 11, according to Army Central Command.
Staff Sgt. Anthony Bermudez, 28, of Dallas, was identified by the Army as the soldier killed in the incident.
The accident occurred in a commercial vehicle, not a Humvee or tactical vehicle, though the soldiers were on duty, according to Army Central spokesman Col. Armando Hernandez. ....
