Muncie earmarks federal funds for hospitality industry, budget shortfalls


Numerous departments were short according to officials, which is where the general fund stimulus will come into play. Beech Grove Cemetery as a governmental unit has a $120,000 allocation out of the city s ARP funds, while the Muncie Street Department will see nearly $400,000.
Several City TIF districts also are getting a boost from the funds.
The city allocated an additional $1,924,430 in both 2022 and 2023 to assist with potential shortfalls there. Officials are uncertain what, if any impact the pandemic will have on government revenue at that point.
Should the money not be needed, it can be reallocated elsewhere.
Even with three years of shortfall allocated in the plan, budget items only take up 20% of the total money given to Muncie. ....

United Way celebrates campaign that raised $1.3M amid pandemic

MUNCIE, Ind. The United Way of Delaware, Henry and Randolph Counties raised more than $1.3 million during its campaign amid a global pandemic with unprecedented needs in its three-county area.
In addition, United Way received Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Economic Relief Initiative grant funds through Indiana United Ways. This brought in an additional $1.1 million for the benefit of the three counties, according to a release.
“We saw firsthand the steady work of our partners that made a lasting difference in the lives of so many in our community,” United Way President and CEO Jenni Marsh said in the release. “I’ve never been prouder to be part of this organization. Not only was United Way able to innovate new ways to deliver our direct service reading programs, but we also maintained our grant commitments of over $800,000 to 28 partner organizations.  On top of that, we awarded $1,150,000 in additional grants to help address u ....
