FULTON COUNTY, Ga. - Northside Hospital System is seeing record high COVID-19 hospitalizations right now, and they’re not alone.
According to Georgia Department of Public Health - COVID-19 patients make up 27% of hospitalizations statewide.
Staff with Northside said COVID-19 patients make up 40% of their overall patient population.
Those hospitalizations have caused ER diversion in some healthcare facilities because they have so many patients coming in.
Because of the influx, Northside has run out of convalescent plasma to help treat current COVID-19 patients. ....

Northside Hospital looking for plasma donations

Northside Hospital staff are asking for plasma donations after a surge in COVID-19 patients within their hospital system has left their supply depleted .
According to a press release from Northside Hospital System, staff are looking for survivors of COVID-19 to donate plasma, which will in turn help treat those currently battling the virus. Since the convalescent plasma program was first launced at Northside Hospital, Atlanta Blood Services has collected more than 1,700 units of plasma from 563 donors.
Up until this point, hospital staff have had enough plasma to treat patients in need, but now patients are on a waiting list.

If youâve contracted COVID-19 and have recovered from it, Northside Hospital needs your help.
With the number of individuals being hospitalized for the coronavirus in Georgia at record highs, the hospitalâs five locations, including Sandy Springs, needs convalescent plasma donors to help patients fighting COVID today, a news release stated.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Healthâs website, 12,065 hospital inpatient beds are in use, which is 80.2% of capacity, and 2,571 ICU beds are in use, which is 87.1% of capacity. Dec. 17, the state went over the 13,000 mark in hospital inpatient beds in use for the first time this year. ....
