LAKEMONT A new school is looking to make the cut.
Ali Steele recently opened Keystone Barber School LLC at 110 S. Logan Blvd. in Lakemont.
“I have been in the industry for
10 years and felt like this was a good thing for the community to give other opportunities for students. There weren’t any other barber schools in the area since Martin’s Barber School closed,” Steele said. ....

Susan Joy Weyandt, 75, of Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Paul W. and Genevieve R. (Mackey) Swanger.
Susan married Carl J. Weyandt Sr. on Feb. 17, 1966, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 2007.
Surviving are two sons, Mark A. Weyandt and his wife, Barbara, of Lancaster and Carl J. Weyandt Jr. and his wife, Anitra, of Altoona; four grandchildren: Casidy, Marissa, Carson and Kierstan Weyandt. Also surviving is her brother, Gary Swanger, of Mechanicsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her brother, Gregg Swanger. ....

William G. Bennett, 79, Duncansville, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Ridgeway, a son of the late George W. and Katherine E. (Morgan) Bennett.
He married the former Norma J. Diehl on April 24, 1965, at Bethany Lutheran Church, Altoona.
He is survived by his wife, Norma; two sons, William H. Bennett (Teresa) of Hollidaysburg and Christopher K. Bennett Sr. (Cindy) of Duncansville; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was the last survivor of five siblings. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natisha.
Bill was a 1960 graduate of Altoona High School and Greater Altoona Career and Technology Center. ....

New operations director helping ACT keep moving forward | News, Sports, Jobs

Calling it her “dream job,” Tara E. Enedy took over as the new director of operations of the Altoona Community Theatre in November and is earning rave reviews despite a COVID-19-induced pause in performances.
A Hollidaysburg resident, Enedy brings a diverse skill set, organizational aptitude and knowledge of the all-volunteer organization from her previous roles as an actor, stage manager and ACT board member. ACT has a volunteer base of about 200 individuals 100 of those are “very active,” Enedy said of those who choose to give up their nights and weekends.
“(ACT) has a lot of moving parts,” said Bryce Cossitor, vice-president of ACT’s board of directors. “I’m pleased and very comfortable with her in this position. She has a lot of fresh ideas and understands operations and the inner workings of the organization. She can make a big impact and move us ahead.” ....
