The inductees of the 2020 TSSAA Hall of Fame were originally set to be inducted at the annual luncheon in April of 2020. Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, that ceremony was postponed not one, not two, but three times. The nine inductees were officially recognized for the contributions to high school athletics at the induction ceremony that finally took place on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at the Embassy Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Murfreesboro. ....

Peggy Evans Thomas, 98, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2021.
She was born March 22, 1923, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Theodore I. Evans, Sr., and Faith Elliott Evans.  Although she spent nearly her entire life in Chattanooga, her family lived in Georgia for part of her youth, and she earned a diploma from Montezuma High School in Montezuma, Ga., in 1940, when students were graduated after 11th grade.  She then returned to Chattanooga for an additional year of secondary school and attended Chattanooga High School, graduating with the class of 1941.  It was there that she met the love of her life and husband of 40 years, Richard C. (Dick) Thomas, who preceded her in death in 1989. ....

It’s the only career path Bill McMahan ever envisioned for himself. The moment he graduated from Baylor School in 1967, it became his dream to discover an avenue to return to the place that gave him a sense of purpose.
It’s also telling that the setting where McMahan experienced some of the hardest challenges of his early years is the same place he enjoyed his greatest accomplishments. That dream hatched half a century ago comes to a close next month as McMahan will retire after a 47-year career at Baylor. ....

Memorial Service For Legendary Coach Tom Weathers Will Be Wednesday At Red Bank High

A funeral service for legendary Red Bank High School football coach Tom Weathers will be held Wednesday at the school.
 
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. at the Red Bank High School gymnasium. The service will follow promptly at 7 p.m.
 
 
He was born November 22, 1939 in Columbus, Miss., to the late William Lewis Weathers and Ludy Williamson Weathers.
Coach Weathers graduated high school at New Hope High (‘57), in Columbus MS. He was recruited by Coach Scrappy Moore to play football for the Moccasins at the University of Chattanooga where he was a four-year letterman and a two-year captain. He received a B.S. degree in Health and Physical Education (‘62) at UC. He later received his M.A. degree in Health and Physical Education (‘69) at Tennessee Tech. ....
