Mayor's Disaster Relief Fund awards $540K in grants

Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson announced the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund will award $540,000 in grants to 27 local nonprofits that are helping people recover from the February winter storms and power outages. This is the second round of grants from the fund.
Each of the 27 organizations will receive $20,000. Resource Center is among the recipients.
Also receiving funds are other agencies that work with people in the LGBTQ community. Among them are Human Rights Initiative, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and Promise House.
Among the agencies receiving fund in the first round of grants were Senior Source and The Family Place that both provide services to or work with other agencies in the LGBTQ community. ....

Kroger Donates $50,000 Top Mayor's Disaster Relief Fund

Kroger Assists Dallas With Storm Recovery Efforts
DALLAS Kroger has donated $50,000 to the Mayor’s Disaster Relief Fund, Mayor Eric Johnson announced Thursday.
The money will be used to help Dallas residents recover from last week’s winter storms. The grocer has also donated nearly 50,000 gallons of water to the City of Dallas for its water distribution efforts.
“As we recover from this awful crisis, we need an all-hands-on-deck approach from governmental entities, nonprofits, and our business community,” Mayor Johnson said. “Kroger has been a wonderful partner for the City of Dallas in the past, and I am grateful for their continued support of our people.” ....

Nonprofit, grassroot relief efforts continue as D-FW residents remain without water

DALLAS There are many neighbors across North Texas who are still dealing with water outages and lingering repairs from the recent winter storms. In the meantime, plumbers are working hard to get water lines repaired and services restored.
It felt like we were just in survival mode,” said Taylor Skinner.
Some neighbors said they’ve been left in limbo as a result of frozen pipes, busted water lines, and weather-related service outages.
“My momma’s roof caved in. It’s just been a struggle for us,” said Joshua Strout. ....

Mayor Johnson's Disaster Relief Fund Gives $500K in Grants to Dallas Organizations

The grants were unanimously approved by the Mayor s Disaster Relief Fund advisory committee.
The committee is chaired by former U.S. Ambassador and current Hunt Consolidated Senior Vice President Jeanne Phillips.
The other members of the committee are the Dallas Foundation President and CEO Matthew Randazzo, UT Southwestern Vice President for Community and Corporate Relations Ruben Esquivel, the Beck Group s Executive Chairman Peter Beck, Dallas City Manager T.C. Broadnax, and Mayor Eric Johnson s Chief of Staff Mary Elbanna.
“Last week’s brutal winter storms and catastrophic power outages tested our city’s resolve and our resilience, but our generous donors and the work of our grant recipients show the interminable strength of our communities,” Mayor Johnson said. “The people of Dallas are our city’s greatest asset, and I am thrilled that we will be able to help them recover and rebuild.” ....
