The bottom fell out of the auto market a year ago, leaving some dealerships closed due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions and others stuck with large inventories as customers working from home postponed purchases.
The industry picked up in the last quarter of 2020, but left dealerships sales about 20% lower than 2019, according to J.D. Power. ....

History will be made in May when the Twin Cities Auto Show opens at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for the first time in its 48 years, the show will go on outdoors.

Hundreds of new vehicles will be displayed where Midway rides typically thrill fairgoers each summer. But there also will be seven neighborhoods spread across the fairgrounds, each showcasing motorized vehicles and activities around different themes.
We are hoping to take full advantage of the 322 acres, said Scott Lambert, president of the Greater Metropolitan Automobile Dealers Association of Minnesota, which produces the show. This will be a much bigger extravaganza around the celebration of automobiles. ....

The Automotive Trade Association Executives, or ATAE, has elected Scott Lambert as its 2021 chairman. The election took place virtually at the ATAE annual winter meeting on Thursday.
Lambert is president of the Minnesota Automobile Dealers Association and has been with that group for more than 30 years, supporting Minnesota’s more than 375 dealers. He has been association president since 2000.
He said he was honored to serve as ATAE chairman and added that the coronavirus pandemic has complicated the task of operating a dealership in today’s continually changing business environment. ....
