A Fresno, California, police officer was fired Friday after online images and videos surfaced showing his alleged involvement with the far-right group the Proud Boys, Fresno police said.
Rick Fitzgerald had been placed on paid administrative leave last month and an internal investigation was launched, the department said.
It is unclear what level of involvement the former officer had with the group, but videos posted to social media showed he participated in at least one protest alongside some of their members, according to the department. ....

A California police department announced Friday that it fired one of its officers for having ties to the far-right extremist group Proud Boys.
The Fresno Police Department terminated Rick Fitzgerald s employment following an investigation that began after the officer joined a Proud Boys event on March 14. Fitzgerald was placed on administrative leave following the incident while the department investigated, according to a statement the department shared to social media.

It is clear to me there were egregious violations of department policy, Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer said in a statement publicly announcing Fitzgerald s ousting, according to NBC News.
He continued, I am pleased that Officer Fitzgerald will no longer be serving as a police officer with the City of Fresno. ....

FRESNO, Calif.
A Fresno police officer who is a former member of the extremist Proud Boys group has been fired, it was announced Friday.
Officer Rick Fitzgerald had been on paid leave since an internal police investigation was launched last month after some people said he was seen wearing clothing associated with the white nationalist group while attending a rally in support of selling a local theatre to a church.
“It is clear to me that there were egregious violations of department policy,” Mayor Jerry Dyer said in a statement. “I am pleased that Officer Fitzgerald will no longer be serving as a police officer with the city of Fresno.” ....

Rick Fitzgerald is speaking out hours after both the Fresno Police Department and the city s mayor announced he was terminated from the department for his involvement with the Proud Boys, a far right, extremist group.
