Pepsi can defense falls flat for Gaston man convicted in four killings


A man convicted, along with his former girlfriend, of a 2003 quadruple homicide in Gaston County was dealt a blow this week in his efforts to have his four murder convictions overturned and win a new trial.
Keith Lavoris Hall, now 41 and serving multiple life sentences, was hoping to get additional DNA testing done from a fingerprint found on a Pepsi can police found during their investigation into the Sept. 2, 2003, shooting deaths of four people in the Paradise Point neighborhood south of Belmont.
Hall, who has been representing himself on his appeals, asked for the DNA testing in June 2019. A month later, Gaston County Superior Court Judge Jesse Caldwell denied Hall s request. ....

NC state prisoner dies after getting COVID-19

RALEIGH, N.C. A woman serving time in the Anson Correctional Institution who tested positive for COVID-19 has died.
According to officials, the woman had pre-existing medical conditions.
“Her death is tragic. We are working hard to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 in our prisons,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “The health and safety of the staff and the offender population is our top priority.”
The woman tested positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized on Nov. 26. She died on Dec. 21.
According to officials, the offender was a female in her early-40s who had underlying health conditions. Given her family’s right to privacy and the confidentiality of prison offender records, the Department of Public Safety will not further identify the individual. ....

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. (WBTV) - A female inmate has died after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Anson Correctional Institution.
“Her death is tragic. We are working hard to alleviate the impact of COVID-19 in our prisons,” said Todd Ishee, Commissioner of Prisons. “The health and safety of the staff and the offender population is our top priority.”
The inmate tested positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized on Nov. 26. She died on Dec. 21. ....
