The Greater Waterbury Campership Fund kicks off its 52nd annual spring campaign Sunday, and two longtime friends of the Campership Fund are once again stepping up to make sure as many local children as possible get to camp this summer.
Frank and Sandy Monteiro of Prospect, this year joined by their son Anthony, and Drew Marine, of which Frank Monteiro is president and chief executive officer, are offering a 3-week challenge grant. This opportunity could mean $15,000 in camp tuition available this summer, just as 15 camps are preparing to open and provide their life-changing fun and experience.
The challenge starts Sunday.

Greater Waterbury Campership Fund Update: Board takes unprecedented step to ensure all applicants get a week of fun

WATERBURY — Unexpected good has come from the COVID-19 pandemic, thanks to the unwavering support of friends of the Greater Waterbury Campership Fund who believe in the nonprofit’s mission.
The Campership Fund’s board of directors took a major, unprecedented step to ensure all eligible applicants for camperships will get their opportunity for a week of summertime fun, for at least the few years and possibly longer.
The board voted to transfer $250,000 into the program’s Next 50 account created in 2019 to mark the nonprofit’s 50th anniversary. The tuition-only account was created to cover tuition costs should revenue fall short for any particular camping season. In years past, directors had years where they scrambled to raise more money at the last minute, should demand exceed donations.

Greater Waterbury Campership Fund Update: Fund receives donation from Santa himself

WATERBURY — There’s no arguing that Santa Claus seemingly knows everything about everybody, especially who has been naughty or nice.
The Jolly Ol’ Elf has put the Greater Waterbury Campership Fund in the latter category, fortunately.
“Santa” sent in a gift card for $100 for the Campership Fund, which has been graciously accepted. Because gift cards cannot be cashed and put toward tuition costs for camp, the $100 will be treated as a sponsorship toward the costs of a future fundraising event, such as the next Big Green Truck Pizza party that can be held when the country is freed from the COVID-19 pandemic’s grip on our activities and lives.
