Apollo Specialty Hospital in OMR recently treated a 20-year-old air-conditioning mechanic who fell from the 17th floor of a construction site at Perungudi.
M.D. Firoj Alam tripped and fell to the fifth floor of the building. He sustained multiple injuries in his body, fractured his legs, skull and facial bones. He was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive state, with breathing problems, extreme hypotension and bleeding from the head, mouth, ears and nose. In both legs, the bones were exposed. ....

Over 50 per cent COVID-19 patients with barotrauma succumbed to illness: Study

BENGALURU: Critically-ill Covid patients who were on respiratory support had a high incidence of barotrauma, and over half of such patients succumbed to their illness, a new study has found.
The study Severe Covid 19 pneumonia and barotrauma: From the frying pan into the fire was posted as a preprint on medRxiv on February 16.
It retrospectively analysed data of 410 patients between June and November 2020 at Apollo Specialty Hospital in Jayanagar, Bengaluru. 
Thirty-eight of 410 patients (9.3%) showed a high incidence of barotrauma during the study period, which refers to injuries in the body caused by increased air or water pressure. In this case, it refers to lung damage similar to tearing of the lung tissue, which can lead to a collection of air around the lungs. This air can also push its way out to below the skin. ....

In the initial few days, vaccination will be done only for the those beneficiaries who are registered online in urban and private facilities and both on-site and online in rural areas.
Moving forward, the state will scale up the vaccination for other mode of registration also and ramp up the number of facilities.
As per criteria specified by GoI, everyone under the specified age group will get a chance to be vaccinated. Vaccination can be done four days a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday in government facilities and all working days in private hospitals. From March 1, the vaccination time will be 12 pm to 5 pm and later it will be modified. Number of vaccinations per day would be limited to 200 per session site and will be served on first-come-first-s ....
