Finland Radio Amateurs Seek Replacement Spectrum for 1240 – 1300 MHz
12/30/2020
Finnish International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) member-society
SRAL is asking for amateur radio privileges on 220 – 225 MHz as a replacement for the 1240 – 1300 MHz band, which was deleted last April 24, except for use by special permit. SRAL’s initial request for 902 – 928 MHz was turned down.
The request is to provide spectrum for Amateur Television (ATV) operation. The special permits for the 1.2 GHz band will expire when the Galileo GNSS (GPS) constellation becomes fully operational. Concerns have arisen in Europe regarding the potential of amateur radio interference to one Galileo frequency.

Finland s radio hams ask for 1240-1300 MHz replacement

The request is to provide spectrum for Amateur Television operation. It seems that currently operation in 1240-1300 MHz is still possible but only by applying for a Special Permit. These Special Permits will cease when the Galileo GNSS constellation becomes fully operational.
A translation of a DARC post reads:
On April 24, 2020, new frequency allocation regulations came into force in Finland. The 23 cm band 1240–1300 MHz has not been an amateur radio band in Finland since then. The 23 cm area may only be used with a special permit, which can be granted for a limited period as long as the Galileo system ....

VHF / UHF Repeaters in IARU Region 2
Since its formation in 2017, the
Region 2 Band Planning Committee has worked to not just keep the band plans current, but also to determine the level of activity on the bands
This information has been especially valuable for the VHF and UHF bands, where it is often used to defend Amateur allocations from others who would like to take our frequencies.
One of the primary operating modes on the higher bands is repeaters.
It’s probably safe to say that almost every Ham has used a repeater at some point.  Just how many repeaters are there in Region 2 however?  Wonder no more!  As part of its work, the Band Planning Committee has consulted a number of online databases, and compiled the numbers.  They are included in the table attached below. ....
