Ameren Illinois donates refrigerators to local food pantries

(WSIL) Six local food pantries will be able to store perishable food items and feed more families thanks to a new donation from Ameren Illinois.
Whiteash Food Bank has seen an increase in the need for assistance since the beginning of the pandemic. With the rise in demand, came an increased need to store food safely to keep it fresh. Ameren Illinois blessed us with this freezer where we are able to store more products because of the increase need in our community, said Pastor Andy Lee, Whiteash Free Will Baptist Church. We re able to store more things and host more food banks. We ll be able to help the needs of our community better thanks to Ameren Illinois.

COLLINSVILLE Thanks to the donation of new energy efficient convertible refrigerator/freezers from Ameren Illinois, five local food pantries will be able to store perishable food items and feed more families.
Community Care Center in Cottage Hills has seen an increase in the need for assistance since the beginning of the pandemic. With the rise in demand, came an increased need to store food safely to keep it fresh.
“With this wonderful donation from Ameren Illinois, we are going to be able to continue to serve about 800 families to 1,000 individuals per month,” said Melanie Lohman, Executive Director, Community Care Center. “We also will serve 133 senior citizens that we do senior boxes for which is an at home delivery for those that are 65 and older without transportation.”

Lincoln, Ill. – Community Action Partnership of Central Illinois (CAPCIL) received a $20,000 grant from Ameren Illinois to support the procurement of materials needed for Workcamp for Lincoln that will take place across the community this summer.
As part of a partnership with a national organization called Group Mission Trips, the workcamp will bring youth from across the country to Logan County to complete home repairs for 60 to 70 homes. The focus will be on low-income, veterans and disabled and support local businesses through the purchase of materials at local suppliers.
Homeowners living in Logan County that may qualify for these free home repairs can visit www.capcil.info and click on the Client Kiosk Button to apply. Once the application is received, it will be reviewed for eligibility. Eligible homeowners will then be contacted with next steps.
