'A celebration of our allyship': OU multicultural organizations to host 'Big 5 on the Block' event with free food, activities


The five largest multicultural student associations at OU will host an event with food trucks and games from 4-7 p.m. April 30 on the South Oval. 
According to an email from International Advisory Committee President Amer Begović, the American Indian Student Association, Asian American Student Association, Black Student Associate and Hispanic Student Association decided to work together to create the Big 5 on the Block event because “the students we represent often face similar issues.” 
“We realized that it is highly important that we stand together, and after strongly advocating for our communities together this year, this event is a celebration of our allyship, and also a celebration of our diversity and different cultures,” Begović wrote.  ....

Uneven funding changes for student organizations spark debate in OU Undergraduate Student Congress meeting


The Student Government Association Undergraduate Student Congress passed two bills relating to student organizations’ funding that generated debate on the amount of funding multicultural organizations received, and they nominated members for numerous administrative positions Tuesday.
Budget Committee Chair Lauren Patton presented a bill appropriating SGA funds to governmental student organizations at OU, including Campus Activities Council, SGA Undergraduate Student Congress, SGA Graduate Student Senate, the SGA Executive Branch and Student Bar Association.
Some congress members questioned why CAC received an increase in funding this year. Patton explained CAC had “unfairly” received a cut last year due to budget restrictions.
“We were able to work with them — they knew (they would be) going into primary (funding) last year and supplemented during auxiliary (funding) at the beginning of this year, but we wanted to return them more to what th ....
