High school graduation rates for Native students are lowest of all racial groups in U.S.

The national non-profit NDN Collective plans to open an independent, Indigenous-led school in Rapid City, South Dakota, for Native students. School administrators project opening it with 40 students in fall 2022. The goal is to engage Native students to assume leadership roles. The school curriculum also aims to strengthen culture, identity, and community investment. ....

For more than a decade, Poetry Out Loud has given New Mexico high school students a platform for their words.
This year may look a little different as the competition is virtual. Nonetheless, six students will compete to become state champion.

SANTA FE Six New Mexico high school students will compete via Zoom to become New Mexico’s Poetry Out Loud state champion, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 14. 
Admission to the virtual event is free and open to the public.
Poetry Out Loud is a poetry recitation competition that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization and performance. This national program is a partnership of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the Poetry Foundation, and state arts agencies.  ....

Los Lunas Board of Educations selects three finalists for superintendent position

LOS LUNAS â From 12 to three.
The Los Lunas Schools Board of Education finalized its shortlist of candidates for the superintendent position on Tuesday, Dec. 8.
The three remaining candidatesÂ â Ron Hendrix, Dr. Arsenio Romero and Katarina SandovalÂ â will come before the board on Monday, Dec. 14, in an executive session for a second interview before a new superintendent is chosen.
There will be two special meetings on Monday, however. At 9 a.m., the board will meet to approve questions for the candidates for superintendent before interviewing them in a closed session. Later that day, at 5:30 p.m., the board will vote to appoint a new superintendent. ....
