British American Tobacco (Malaysia) Bhd saw its net profit sink 25.57% to RM72.72 million for the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2020 (4QFY20), from RM97.70 million for 4QFY19, as it recorded lower revenue and higher operating expenses, while cost of sales grew. Quarterly revenue slipped to RM660.23 million from RM662.45 million. It announced a fourth interim dividend of 27 sen, payable on March 9. For the full year, the group’s net profit dropped 30.04% to RM241.84 million, from RM345.7 million last year, which it blamed on the continued growth of the tobacco and vaping black marke ....

Solemnisation ceremonies allowed in Federal Territories from tomorrow, says Jawi

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 7): Marriage solemnisation ceremonies are allowed to be held at all kariah mosques and at the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI) offices in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan, effective tomorrow.
According to the Guidelines for the Marriage Solemnisation Ceremony during the Movement Control Order (MCO) issued by JAWI, only five people are allowed to attend, namely the bride and bridegroom, wali (guardian) and two representatives of the couple.
The marriage official and two witnesses must also be from JAWI and the mosque where the ceremony is held.
“For brides and bridegrooms from different states that are in red zones, the number of attendees is also restricted to five people,” according to the guidelines updated today. ....

Covid: Public and private hospitals to operate in a hybrid manner — Health DG

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 26): The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) has placed public and private hospitals in a cluster under the Covid-19 Integrated Control Centre to operate in a hybrid manner.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the cluster would operate to treat Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients according to instructions issued by the MoH.
As of Monday, there are 210 licensed private hospitals, of which 129 private hospitals offer inpatient services dealing with internal medicine. Of the total, 96 private hospitals have agreed to provide Covid-19 treatment, where the total number of (inpatient) beds (provided) so far is 1,252, as well as 65 ICU beds, and 54 ventilator machines. ....

Covid-19: Clinical trial for vaccine from China only for willing participants

KUCHING: The Sarawak Health Department will first have a discussion with those selected to undergo the clinical trial for the Covid-19 vaccine from China, before obtaining their consent.
State Health Department director Dr Chin Zin Hing said those who have been selected would be contacted personally to be present at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
“After the clinical study specifications have been explained and the individuals have given their consent to participate, only then will they be officially included in the clinical trial list.
“SGH is one of the nine research centres under the supervision of the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MoH) which has been selected to conduct this international clinical trial,“ he said in a statement here, today. ....
