Poor vaccine response - Newspaper

PAKISTAN has one of the lowest Covid-19 vaccination rates in the world a situation which, if not improved, can lead to multiple challenges. Thus far, only 5pc of our entire population has been vaccinated. Even if one were to look at the percentage of vaccinated people in the eligible group, the figure is a sorry 10pc. Though the data shows vaccine coverage in Islamabad is promising at 35pc, inoculation of eligible members of the population in Balochistan, Sindh and Punjab is 10pc or lower.
Experts have said that vaccine hesitancy, conspiracy theories and low awareness are major factors behind the slow vaccination rate. But the Ministry of National Health Services claims otherwise, saying that the rates are low as most people want to get vaccinated near their place of residence and are deterred by long wait times. While this may be a minor factor behind the slow pace, the issue of vaccine hesitancy is a real and dangerous one. One survey cited by doctors has revealed that the ....

Vaccine rates

Vaccine rates
July 4, 2021
The spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in Pakistan appears to be under control – though the infection rates are going up again – but this should not be a cause for any complacency or celebration. To date, only five percent of Pakistan’s total population has received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. For the eligible population, this ratio is around 10 percent which places Pakistan at one of the lowest ranks of countries where the pace of vaccination remains fairly sluggish. A disturbing fact is that the largest province of Pakistan which already lags behind other areas of the country in terms of health facilities, has vaccinated just three percent of its population eligible for the dose. The ratio for Punjab and Sindh is also disappointing with just 10 percent of people vaccinated with at least one shot. These numbers are also misleading as counting the first shot of vaccine is not tantamount to full vaccination. ....
