Landfill management more efficient with series of heavy machinery deliveries to VROMI Ministry Published: 28 July 2021 PHILIPSBURG:--- Over the past 24 months, the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI) has obtained several pieces of heavy equipment machinery, all of which helps to improve the daily management of the country’s landfill. The machinery, procured through the St. Maarten Trust Fund under the Emergency Debris Management Project (EDMP), includes a front-end loader, a bulldozer, an alternative daily cover (ADC) silo, and applicator, and, most recently, a new solid waste compactor worth US $740,000. With the country’s current financial constraints, the purchase and delivery of this equipment provide cost-saving to the Government of Sint Maarten, as it replaces the machinery that the VROMI Ministry was previously renting from third parties. The total value of all the ADC and landfill management equipment is approximately US $2.1 million. The Trust Fund will also fund preventative maintenance for all the purchased and delivered heavy machinery until the end of the EDMP project.

They are Maritime Affairs within the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication (TEATT), the Ministry of Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure (VROMI), Department of Interior and Kingdom Relations (BAK) within the Ministry of General Affairs (AZ) and National Commission for UNESCO St. Maarten (NatCom). The main objectives of this meeting were to collect information, clarify the Department’s role and UNESCO’s Convention requirements and reassert the Minister’s overarching responsibility towards Archeology and Underwater Heritage.

Published: 14 June 2021 PHILIPSBURG (DCOMM):--- The Ministry of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning, and Infrastructure (Ministry of VROMI), announces that one lane will be closed to motorized traffic on the Causeway Bridge. On Thursday, June 17, and Friday, June 18, the traffic lane leading from the Airport road to Cole Bay, will be closed to motorized traffic from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. On Saturday, June 19, and Sunday, June 20, the traffic lane leading from Union Road, Cole Bay to the Airport, will be closed to motorized traffic from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The closures are in connection with the maintenance works that have to be carried out on the dividers between the road and the sidewalk. One lane will be closed at a time as noted above.
