Spanish Supreme Court rejects AMI’s ad restrictions appeal

The Supreme Court of Spain has rejected an appeal submitted by media association la Asociación de Medios e Información (AMI), to delay the introduction of restrictions on gambling advertising in the jurisdiction.
The third section of the Contentious-Administrative Chamber of the Supreme Court has refused to suspend the entry into force of article 23.1b of the Royal Decree on Advertising, which prohibits the dissemination of gambling advertising online, except for in specific circumstances.
The law would allow for gambling advertising to continue on websites or applications whose main activity is providing information on sporting events, provided they have mechanisms to prevent the access of minors and regularly include safer gambling messages. ....

Jdigital signs responsible gambling services agreement with Fejar

Spanish online operator association Jdigital has signed an agreement with the Spanish Federation of Rehabilitated Gamblers (Fejar), under which the association’s members will incorporate a free phone number for assistance and therapy on their platforms, managed by Fejar.
The first phase of the agreement will see eight of the association’s operator members include the number on their websites.
The agreement was signed on International Responsible Gambling Day (20 February), and makes the requirement signed into Spanish legislation to provide resources to those at risk of gambling related harm into a reality, Jdigital said. ....

DGOJ boss says gambling in Spain “not a public health problem”

The director general of Spanish gambling regulator the Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has said gambling is not a public health problem in the country, despite a government crackdown on the sector.
During a conference call organised by the Madrid Workers Commissions (CCOO), director general of the DGOJ Mikel Arana said that, according to the regulator’s own prevalence studies, “the vast majority of people who gamble, whether online or offline, do so as a leisure activity and it is not a health problem for them”. ....
