PeaceHealth University District underway demolishing vacant buildings

PeaceHealth is in the process of tearing down four unused buildings on its University District campus and is remodeling its lobby space to relocate some services there.
The demolition is being done in order to clear out empty and outdated buildings, some of which have been vacant for more than a decade, according to the hospital’s chief administrative officer, Alicia Beymer. It also will allow for more space and sunlight coming throughout the University District campus, she said.
The removal process is expected to take 15 months and has an estimated cost of $5.5 million, while the renovation of the lobby space will cost an estimated $990,000, Beymer said. ....

New Program To Accommodate Increased Mental Health Needs Of Children, Youth

KLCC s Brian Bull reports on a grant-funded program that allows The Child Center and PeaceHealth accomodate increased mental health emergencies by children and youth.
A Journal of Pediatric Nursing report shows the rate of 5 to 17 year-olds seeking emergency mental health rose 60 percent over a decade
before the pandemic. And PeaceHealth reports seeing an average of 38 youth per month at two sites since COVID-19 hit Oregon.
The Oregon Health Authority has granted $150,000 for PeaceHealth and The Child Center in Springfield for a Crisis and Transition Services (CATS) program in Lane County.
