COOK- An open house at the Cook Community Center on July 7 for people to review and comment on an updated and revised master plan for the David Dill/Arrowhead State Trail drew about a dozen people, with many showing up in support of opening up portions of the trail for off-highway vehicle use.
Department of Natural Resources Off-Highway Planner Joe Unger worked his way around the room past maps depicting eight sections of the trail that have been reviewed for possible development, stopping along the way to talk with visitors and answer questions. Multiple copies of the proposed master plan were available to read, and several people took advantage of the opportunity to do so.

PAYSON Eight years after a hit-and-run crash left a teenager dead on a country road between Salem and Payson, investigators were hoping someone out there was still holding the critical clue to help solve the case.
Nathan Haun, 17, was walking home along Arrowhead Trail between Salem and Payson early in the morning of July 13, 2013, when he was struck by a truck and killed, investigators said.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff s Office said Monday that the truck was believed to have been traveling at least 70 miles per hour when it impacted Haun. It s a narrow, two-lane road, Cannon observed. Even 40 miles-per-hour is pretty quick for this road.

Osamequin Nature Preserve, Barrington
Access: Off Route 195, drive 4.5 miles south on Route 114. Use a turnaround to get on Route 114 north and the lot is on the right.

BARRINGTON Ospreys, egrets and deep, dark holes dug by fiddler crabs in the mud flats are among the sights you can see from the trails along the west shore of the Barrington River’s Hundred Acre Cove in the Osamequin Nature Preserve.
Osamequin, or Massasoit Ousamequin, was chief in the 1600s of the Pokanoket tribe of the Wampanoag Nation, who lived on the land called Sowams that stretched from Providence to Bristol. The preserve, managed by the Barrington Land Conservation Trust, gives walkers an idea of what the estuary habitats, coastal marshes, plants and wildlife looked like 400 years ago.
