KARACHI: The Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi on Thursday evening held an event to pay tribute to scholar Dr Shakeel-ur-Rehman Farooqui, who died of coronavirus on March 15.
Dr Farooqui was associate professor at the department of genetics, University of Karachi.
Shakil Khan was the moderator of the programme. He said Dr Farooqui loved the University of Karachi (KU). He was there until he breathed his last and is buried in the KU graveyard. In the latter part of his life, his fondness for literature, which may have been subdued because of teaching genetics for a long time, came to the fore. ....

Rawalpindi: An unbelievable event of poetry and moving speeches was held with the launch of Ambreen Haseeb Ambar’s first poetry collection. Writers, intellectuals, poets, and other guests attended the launch presided over by eminent poet Dr. Nisar Turabi.
The launching ceremony of the book titled, ‘Shaam Phir Se Mehkay Gee’ took place at Faiz-ul-Islam Complex, Murree Road. A literary and cultural organization Harf Academy organised the event.
The poetry book launch went off with a bang. There was so much thrill and enthusiasm in the ceremony as every person awaited the introductory remarks by Dr. Nisar Turabi, a well-known poet, who introduced Col. Syed Maqbool Hussain, the event organiser and chair of the literary and cultural organization Harf Academy. ....

Islamabad : No society can progress in the right direction without knowledge and literature, said federal information technology secretary Shoaib Siddiqui on Thursday.
He was speaking to Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) Chairman Dr. Yousuf Khushk during a visit to the PAL premises here. They discussed issues of mutual interest. The PAL chairman said the academy was working on a solid foundation for the promotion of literature and the welfare of writers.
He briefed the visitor about the activities under the PAL and future plans. Dr Yousuf said information technology was the need of the hour and no sector could progress without it. With the help of IT in modern times, we can run the PAL along modern lines, he said. ....
