25 Feb 2021 : News Desk Finalists for the 2021 Virgin Media Discovers Prize. The Virgin Media Discovers Short Film Competition, in association with Screen Ireland, will see its ten shortlisted finalists pitch this Friday, February 26th to try and secure an additional 60,000 in funding for their projects. Each of the ten finalists will present to the expert judging panel for this year’s competition which includes award-winning director and screenwriter Lenny Abrahamson, known for directing such acclaimed independent films as Adam & Paul; Derry Girls creator and screenwriter of The Deceived, Lisa McGee; Mullingar-born actor Niamh Algar who stars in Ridley Scott’s major new HBO Max series, Raised by Wolves; Screenwriter and Executive Producer Ursula Rani Sarma whose work includes Delicious and Red Rock.
13 Jan 2021 : News Desk Virgin Media Discovers Ten successful projects, selected from a pool of over 600 entries, have been shortlisted for the short film competition, which has an overall fund of 150,000. Each project will now receive €9,000 to further evolve their ideas with a script writer, with two of these projects ultimately to be chosen by a renowned judging panel for final production. The winning films will be broadcast on Virgin Media Television and on Virgin Media on Demand as part of the Virgin Media Dublin International Film Festival 2021 programme of events. This year, the competition is even bigger through a partnership with Fís Éireann / Screen Ireland, offering support to develop scripts and bringing new film concepts to a wider audience, which is at the heart of the prize fund this year.

This is the third major award the podcast has won, after winning gold at the New York Festivals Radio Awards for Best Narrative/Documentary Podcast; and winning best Radio Documentary at this year’s Celtic Media Festival. The award was given to the Stardust podcast team who conducted interviews, researched, recorded and edited the six-part series: Sean Murray, Nicky Ryan and Christine Bohan.
