The Saskatchewan Government has opened a second intake for the Saskatchewan Veteran Service Club Support Program.
The initiative seeks to provide funding for the long-term sustainability of Saskatchewan’s service clubs, which in turn support veterans, their families and communities in our province. The program works with the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Command and the Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans Saskatchewan Provincial Command.
Registered, non-profit veteran service clubs based in Saskatchewan are eligible to apply for grants up to $25,000. During its first intake, 39 veteran service clubs across Saskatchewan received $634,000. ....

This program is delivered in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Legion, Saskatchewan Command and the Army, Navy, and Air Force Veterans (ANAVETS), Saskatchewan Provincial Command. Registered, non-profit veteran service clubs based in Saskatchewan are eligible to apply for grants up to $25,000. Applications are now being accepted with two application intake cut-off dates of April 30, 2021 and August 31, 2021.
This program provides grants towards facility projects, upgrades, renovations or repairs, access to programming, meetings and events. Grant money can also be used toward special events, programs and activities that engage the public and advance the work of veteran service organizations.
Ken Gordon, president of Royal Canadian Legion General Alexander Ross Branch No. 77 in Yorkton, said the local organization applied for funding in 2020, but were declined, noting funding at $100,000 provincially meant dollars were limited. ....

Sask. government boosts funding for veteran club support program

Applications are now being accepted for the Veteran Service Club Support Program after the Saskatchewan government boosted funding for the program from $100,000 to $1.5 million this week.
Registered, non-profit veteran service clubs based in the province are eligible to apply for grants up to $25,000. Applications are now being accepted with two application intake cut-off dates of April 30, 2021 and August 31, 2021.
Chad Wagner, provincial executive director of the Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command, said the whole idea of the grant is to promote viability of veteran service clubs in the province.
“They are mainly geared towards infrastructure and capital improvements such as HVAC systems, roof repairs, flooring, painting, renovations inside and outside – those certain things,” explained Wagner. ....

APPLICATIONS OPEN FOR GRANTS TO SUPPORT VETERAN SERVICE CLUBS


The Government of Saskatchewan is increasing funding for the Veteran Service Club Support Program from $100,000 to $1,500,000 to continue supporting veterans and their families in Saskatchewan.
“Our government is proud of this increased commitment to Saskatchewan veterans and their family members,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said.  “This funding will help keep Saskatchewan Legions operational and make the necessary improvements to continue serving our heroes.”

CMHA project expected a tax exemption, vague wording causes snag


In her presentation to council, the executive director of CMHA Battlefords Branch, Jane Zielke de Montbrun, explained the interpretation of the Cities Act regarding their tax exemption is in dispute.
Section 262 (1) (p) states that the following is exempt from taxation “so long as the buildings and lands are actually used and occupied by one of the following institutions, the buildings and land attached owned by a division, branch or local unit of:
(i)The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command; (ii) the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada; (iii) the Disabled Veterans’ Association of Saskatchewan; and (iv) the Canadian Mental Health Association (Saskatchewan Division).” ....
