Panchayat chief held for cheating hospital chairman of Rs 2.85 crore | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: A village panchayat president from Pudukkottai district and his associate were arrested by the city crime branch police for cheating the chairman of a Coimbatore-based private hospital of Rs 2.85 crore.
Dr K Madheswaran, chairman, Royal Care Hospital, Coimbatore, lodged a complaint with city crime branch police inspector A Ravi on June 23.
In his complaint, Dr K Madheswaran said he was introduced to N Panneerselvam, 58, a panchayat president of Pachikottai village in Pudukkottai district, by his friend Balasubramaniam, who owns a school, on October 3, 2020.
“I requested Panneerselvam to arrange a loan of Rs 50 crore to expand my hospital. But Panneerselvam promised me that he would arrange to get Rs 100 crore and demanded Rs 2 crore as commission and Rs 85 lakh for document,” Dr Madheswaran said. ....

Active cases dips to 4,676, recovery rate up in dist | Coimbatore News


The recovery rate has improved to 96.9% with 2,12,285 of the 2,18,990 people, who have tested positive for the virus till date, recovering from the infection in the district.
COIMBATORE: The district recorded 563 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, even as 986 patients were discharged from various treatment centres, bringing the active cases down to 4,676.
The recovery rate has improved to 96.9% with 2,12,285 of the 2,18,990 people, who have tested positive for the virus till date, recovering from the infection in the district.
The Covid-19 toll, however, shot up to 2,029 with the state including 12 more fatalities that occurred in the district in the bulletin.
While doctors advise even the vaccinated people to take all Covid-19 precautions like wearing masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing to prevent another wave, they have warned against overdoing of some measures like inhaling steam and consumption of vitamin C. ....

Two young men were shot dead and at least 28 others were wounded in front of the army command in the Sudanese capital yesterday, when army forces dispersed a group of people commemorating the violent dismantling of the Khartoum sit-in two years ago. The reasons for the delay of the investigations into the June 3 massacre are many.
On June 3, 2019, two days before the end of Ramadan, the large sit-in in front of the army command, was broken up with excessive violence. More than 127 protestors were reportedly killed. The bodies of 40 of them were found floating in the Nile. More than 700 others sustained injuries, and at least 100 people went missing in the June 3/Ramadan 29 massacre. ....
