Aldi reveal when they expect to open new Windsor store

in Windsor is ‘progressing well’ and is expected to open near the end of summer.
A spokesperson has given a small update on how the development of the new discount supermarket in Dedworth Road is going since its approval last year.
Despite concerns from locals, a majority of councillors on the Royal Borough Development Management Panel approved for the old Windsor Garden Centre to be demolished for an Aldi store.
Earlier this year, demolition of the garden centre began which caused quite a stir for nearby residents, describing the noise, vibrations, and dust as a ‘war zone’.
The Royal Borough said the level of noise was deemed what you would expect from a demolition site and that week was particularly noisy due to a concrete slab being removed. ....

Windsor retirement homes will replace former Thames Hospice building

Old plans of the retirement homes
Planners reduced the scheme from 45 flats after panel members rebelled against officer’s recommendations and refused the original plan on the grounds the designs ‘were out of keeping’ with the area’s Victorian scenery, ‘poor quality’ designs, loss of trees, and parking overspill.
The developer did go to appeal – but it was dismissed by the planning inspectorate in January 2021 due to the development’s effect on the character of the area and on nearby trees.
Speaking on behalf of an objector, Stephen Whale urged members to refuse this application again as it was ‘disappointing to see that ‘so little has been done’ to amend the ‘overly dominating’ designs to keep it more in keeping with the area. ....

Datchet locals outraged grand old tree set to be chopped down

The two-storey detached home is due to be sold off, the report states.
Before the application was given the green light, nearby residents objected to the plans, saying the tree is ‘significant’ to the street scene and to the local wildlife.
However, planning officers sided with the engineer’s survey, adding if they did not approve the removal, the council would be ‘liable’ to a compensation claim of around £188,000.
Planning officers approved for the tree to be cut down
Plans to prevent the root problem were looked into by the applicant such as a ‘root barrier’ and ‘hydration scheme’ but were ‘discounted’. ....
