COVID-19 News: 'The situation is concerning,' Grey Bruce declared Delta variant hot spot


 
BARRIE, ONT.
Ontario has designated Grey Bruce as a Delta variant hot spot as COVID-19 cases increase across the region.
The situation is concerning, and we continue asking the public to continue getting the vaccine, the two doses, as soon as they can, said Dr. Ian Arra, medical health officer for Grey Bruce Health Unit.
The more transmissible Delta variant was first detected in Grey Bruce in early June.
Cases are widespread throughout Grey Bruce, the health unit said in a release. The increased risk of transmission requires everyone exercise diligence in reducing the spread of the virus.
Dr. Arra said most cases are linked to vulnerable populations, plus an outbreak on the Saugeen First Nation. ....

The newest cases were reported in Saugeen Shores (7), Arran Elderslie (5), Owen Sound (5), Saugeen First Nation (2), Neyaashiinigmiing (2), Grey Highlands (2), South Bruce (2), Georgian Bluffs (1), and Meaford (1).

There are now 187 active cases in the region with 305 high-risk close contacts.
Nine local COVID-19 patients are being treated at local hospitals according to the health unit’s situation report, with six more transferred to hospitals outside of Grey-Bruce.
Nine Grey-Bruce residents have died due to the pandemic virus.
Wednesday, vaccination hubs were operating in Hanover and Kincardine. The first COVID-19 vaccination hub inside the Owen Sound District Secondary School is scheduled for Thursday. At least two vaccine hubs will operate every weekday over the next two weeks as shipments of vaccines to the region have been increased. ....
