No Regard for the Truth

Alan Marling, Livermore
Last week’s article, “Officials Say to Prep for Fire Season,” warned Livermore residents to take action.
The best way to prevent widespread damage due to the climate crisis is to support local green energy. Not only will this reduce and reverse global warming, but also, localized energy will decrease the need for high energy power lines, which are so dangerous that PG&E’s inept response is to shut off our power.
Fortunately, the Alameda supervisors unanimously approved the Aramis solar farm for Livermore. Unfortunately, our source of safe energy is being paralyzed in the courts, due to a lawsuit from Save North Livermore and Friends of Open Space and Vineyards. Tell your neighbors to withdraw support from those two groups until they stop endangering our homes and lives us with frivolous litigation. ....

We Deserve Leadership

“Failure to prepare is preparing to fail.”
That’s a quote from John Wooden, one of the greatest coaches in college basketball history. Unfortunately, Coach Wooden s words aptly describe Alameda County s decade long failure to develop a comprehensive policy for the siting of utility scale solar facilities in the East County.
The task is not impossible. Contra Costa County started working on a comprehensive solar policy seven years after Alameda County began its work, and Contra Costa County finished its policy a year ago. Santa Clara County adopted a solar policy in 2010.
After he voted to approve the gigantic Aramis industrial solar plant on March 4, 2021, Supervisor David Haubert said he wanted a county solar policy to determine where any new solar facilities should be sited that would pose the least conflict with the environment … but not yet. First, he wants to decide whether to approve the other large solar facility in the ‘pipeline,’ ....

Supervisors Approve Utility Scale Solar in North Livermore

David Rounds, Livermore
It only took Dave Haubert, the new District 1 supervisor, two months to break a significant, big campaign promise.
Vowing during the run up to the election to favor the creation of a ‘solar siting policy’ before approving utility-scale solar, Haubert led the 5-0 vote by the board of supervisors to approve the Aramis project last week. Vowing to continue to ‘work’ on a solar policy, the environmental and legal flaws of this project were dismissed by the supervisors.
Next month will be an appeal hearing and vote on a second utility-scale solar plant, across the street from the Aramis project. A solar policy will not be in place by that time. Does anyone question the vote of Haubert and the supervisors? ....
