Fast-moving San Diego County brush fire reaches 75 acres, residents warned to be ready to evacuate

SAN DIEGO
A fast-moving brush fire has grown to 260 acres in the northern San Diego County community of Pala on Wednesday afternoon, and fire crews do not have any of it contained, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection officials said.
Dubbed the Mesa fire, it started west of Pala Casino, near State Route 76. Evacuation warnings are in place, Cal Fire Capt. Frank LoCoco said.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department tweeted that evacuations are voluntary, “but be ready to leave when advised to do so.”
The evacuation site east of the fire has been moved from Casino Pauma to Valley Center High School on Cole Grade Road. The Park and Ride at Highway 76 and Interstate 15 remains as the evacuation site west of the fire. ....

Breakdancing will be an official sport at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and local b-girls and b-boys have been practicing breakdance maneuvers in hopes of repping Team USA. Throughout the county, breakers are “spontaneously” linking up via “social media,” according to b-girl Melissa Adao, and more formally at the Apex School of Movement and Culture Shock Training Academy.

SUSANVILLE, Calif. – Anyone interested in off-highway vehicle sports on northeast California public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management’s Eagle Lake Field Office can share suggestions for projects or improvements that would benefit from grant funding, when the BLM holds a virtual public meeting, Thursday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m.
Participants must register in advance at https://blm.zoomgov.com/webinar/register/WN ippdaHp2RtePl kUZvAarw. Upon registration, participants will receive a confirmation email providing instructions about joining the webinar.
