Kevin Dahlman remembers when he was first becoming a doctor, anticipating parents who were concerned about giving their children the usual battery of childhood vaccines.
When I was in residency, I thought I would get into practice and convince all the vaccine-hesitant parents, said Dahlman, now a pediatrician and medical director at Aurora Children s Health. But I quickly learned it s not that cut and dry.
He said there are many reasons parents are hesitant about vaccines, and it s his job to listen respectfully to understand those reasons  even though he s confident in their safety and effectiveness.
As the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues across the United States, there are now enough shots available to fully vaccinate every person 16 and older.
