A precautionary boil water notice that was in effect for much of the Walnut Hill area was lifted Monday after tests showed the water is safe to drink.
Several hundred residences in the Walnut Hill lost water service as a result of Saturday morning’s storms. A lightning strike destroyed a primary water main at Escambia River Electric Cooperative’s water tower adjacent to their Walnut Hill Office and Ernest Ward Middle School. The leak was isolated, and water service was restored to the area from a second EREC water tower located on Highway 97 across from Ernest Ward.

Several hundred residences in the Walnut Hill lost water service as a result of Saturday morning’s storms.
A lightning strike destroyed a primary water main at Escambia River Electric Cooperative’s water tower adjacent to their Walnut Hill Office and Ernest Ward Middle School.
The leak was isolated, and water service was restored to the area from EREC’s second water tower located across Highway 97 from Ernest Ward. Repairs were to begin as soon as other utilities such as communications lines could be located.
A boil water notice notice is in effect for EREC customers that lost water pressure. The area is described as: ....

The 46th Annual Walnut Hill Ruritan Club Farm Equipment Auction will be held this Saturday, February 27, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
The auction includes not only farm equipment, but also household items like tools and small equipment, lawn and garden items, antiques and more.
The sale will be located at the Walnut Hill Community Center, 7850 Highway 97, just north of Ernest Ward Middle School. The deadline for adding lots is 8 a.m. Saturday.

Dollar General is considering a location in Walnut Hill, and that could change the future of rural zoning across North Escambia.
Teramore Development currently has three properties under contract at the intersection of Highway 97 and Highway 99A in Walnut Hill, next to Ernest Ward Middle School. One of the parcels includes building constructed in 1940 as the former Bryan’s Grocery and Hardware.
The Escambia County future land use category of the property is Rural Community (RC), and is it currently zoned Rural Mixed Use (RMU). The RMU zoning allows commercial buildings up to 6,000 square feet. There is no provision whatsoever to grant any exceptions to construct a larger commercial building. ....
