Massena mayor stays busy during interim role

MASSENA â He may have the interim tag attached to his position, but Mayor Timothy J. Ahlfeld has been busy meeting with and acting on behalf of constituents.
Mr. Ahlfeld, a former village trustee, was appointed by the village board to take over as mayor until the November election. Deputy Mayor Matthew J. LeBire had filled in as mayor following the resignation of Timmy J. Currier in February.
Among his recent activities, Mr. Ahlfeld, Village Administrator Monique Chatland and Trustee Francis J. Carvel hosted a roundtable discussion with 18 community business members.
âWe invited I think maybe close to 30. With schedules and stuff, some could be here and some could not,â he said. ....

Massena village officials approve DPW appointment, resignation

MASSENA – Trustees during a Tuesday, May 18 village board meeting made three appointments, one to a DPW position and two to other village boards. They also accepted a BDC board member’s retirement.
The board voted 4-1 to appoint Thomas Blair as assistant street foreman at the Department of Public Works. The dissenting vote was Trustee Francis Carvel. DPW Superintendent Hassan Fayad said the position fills a vacancy created by a retirement, and Blair was the most qualified of three candidates.
The board voted to accept Ben Murtaugh’s resignation from the Business Development Corporation board.
“I’d like to thank Ben for his years of service on the Business Development Committee,” Mayor Tim Ahlfeld said. ....
