Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury and Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington are pleased to announce their 2021 Nightingale Award for Excellence in Nursing honorees: Lisa Ciarlo, BSN, RN and David Torres, RNF from Saint Mary’s, and Jennifer Bellefleur, RN, BSN and Susan Kellogg, RN, CNOR from Charlotte Hungerford.
Lisa Ciarlo is the Nurse Manager in Saint Mary’s Critical Care and Cardiovascular Units and manages the Respiratory Therapist department. She is being recognized for her innate compassion for patients, as a consistent and vocal advocate for them and their families. She is the epitome of a good leader; knowledgeable, innovative and an excellent teacher. Lisa is a team player who understands the value of collaboration and that the very best patient care requires an interdisciplinary approach. TOMAH, Wis. (WXOW)- After restricting visitors for two months throughout COVID-19, patients at Tomah Health will now be able to have one visitor.
The new policy, set to begin January 18, allows patients visiting the Emergency Services Department, Urgent Care, Surgical Services Department, or Warrens Clinic one visitor over the age of 18.
In addition, Tomah Health continues to permit those at the Acute Care Department, inpatient area of the hospital, and Obstetric (OB) patients having an OB ultrasound to have one visitor. The Hospice Touch and Life Choices Palliative Care facility, located at 601 Straw Street, is also set to follow this policy. ....

Pen Bay, Waldo County hospitals give first COVID-19 vaccines to frontline caregivers

ROCKPORT and BELFAST Pen Bay Medical Center and Waldo County General Hospital, the two MaineHealth hospitals serving communities in Knox and Waldo counties, administered the first vaccinations for COVID-19 to its front-line caregivers Tuesday, Dec. 22.
Hours after the arrival of the Moderna vaccine at its hospitals, PBMC and WCGH began inoculating team members who provide direct care to patients infected with the coronavirus.
Among the first to be vaccinated were Diane Hynes, RN, a charge nurse in the PBMC Emergency Department, and Beth Eldridge, RN, a nurse in the Surgical Services Department at WCGH.
“I am so grateful to the scientists who worked countless hours to develop these vaccines,” Hynes said, in a news release. “I am filled with hope for our future.” ....
