Alaska health department website targeted in cyberattack

Alaska s health department on Tuesday reported a malware attack that disrupted its website s services.
The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) website was taken offline on Monday evening and remained unavailable on Tuesday evening due to the cyberattack.
“At this time, there are no details about who initiated the attack, why they targeted DHSS, whether this attack is related to any other recent attacks, or how long the website may be down,” the state health department wrote in news release.

It also stated that it is “expected to take some time to fully understand the full scope and impact of the incident.” ....

The recent opinion piece “Behavioral health means resilience and well-being” from Cathy Giessel offered excellent reasoning as to the importance of accessible behavioral health services for Alaskans. We appreciate her highlighting the needs of children that have experienced trauma, because intervening early can alter the life course trajectory in a positive direction.
We are also grateful to Alaska Behavioral Health and our many other partners who provide behavioral health services to Alaskans of all ages across the state.

Let me connect this drowning person to problems our community experiences: crime, homelessness and Alaska s poor reading scores.
Every day, people around us being swept down a torrential river of personal trauma. These are people of all ages, but for this discussion, I want to focus on kids - kids who are careening down a river of multiple sources of stress and trauma. ....
