John Doran May 14, 2021 The May 7 edition of your paper was striking to me. In these days of widespread racism charges, Alicia Jones of Lewes was covered in an article describing her formal complaint against the City of Lewes for racism. In the same paper, she also published a letter to the editor knocking a candidate for the school board for alleged racism. Much smaller coverage was given to Jimmie Allen for donating his time and a free performance to raise funds for the family of the white Delmar policeman who was murdered by a black career criminal. His method of bringing people together was quiet, humble and very effective - noticed I’m sure by people of all races. That’s how you do it. Kudos to Jimmie Allen!! ....
Complaint filed with the city’s board of ethics The Lewes Board of Ethics has received several complaints about the city’s lack of diversity and other issues. NICK ROTH PHOTO Nick Roth May 7, 2021 Lewes resident Alicia Jones has lodged two complaints with the city’s board of ethics regarding lack of diversity in those serving the city, including people appointed to committees and commissions. Board of Ethics Chair Mark Harris brought the complaints to mayor and city council’s April 26 meeting for discussion. As the complaints are not against a specific person, Harris said, the board is unable to take action. ....
April 21, 2021 Constance Johnson, a school counselor at William B. Wade Elementary School, was recently named the Elementary School Counselor of the Year by the Maryland School Counselor Association. When Johnson started with Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) in 2014, she split her time between Wade and C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School before beginning at Wade fulltime at the start of the 2015-16 school year. At Wade she is the counselor for kindergarten, third, fourth and fifth grades. Despite her love of the job, it wasn’t one Johnson was planning on when she was in school she earned her bachelor’s from American University and master’s from Johns Hopkins University. She wanted to work in communications with a focus on political advocacy. She was with a communications firm for a couple of years that worked with the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), which collects, analyzes and publishes statistics related to education. ....
After reading the long diatribe written by Alicia Jones, I have a simple response, “You need to get off your high horse.” At the end of her letter, she did not want to mention her “advanced degrees.” In my opinion, the tone of her letter flouts that. ....
