CDS Inaugurates Committee to Reform Armed Forces

In a renewed bid to reorganise the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (rtd), yesterday inaugurated a 21- man committee to facilitate the reforms of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN).
Inaugurating the committee at the Ship House, Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence, Magashi gave a 10-point terms of reference as contained in the convening order.
He told the committee to address the perceived administrative and operational gaps in the military, which he said must be refined and clearly defined in compliance with the current globally acceptable 21st century standards. ....

In 2008, the Coast Guard entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Navy allowing a few Coast Guard members the opportunity to attend Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training, which is the Navy’s gateway to the SEAL program. The initiative, which ended quickly after its inception in 2011, attempted to build unique competencies within Coast Guard ranks in the service’s burgeoning Deployable Specialized Forces (DSF) community as a response to post-9/11 maritime security demands.

Looking back on her years with the Thames River Heritage Park Foundation, Marian Galbraith said she’s most proud of the collaboration among different entities to accomplish a shared vision.
