AG lays pepper spray legislation in Senate

Legislation for pepper spray has been introduced to the Senate as an amendment to the Firearms Act.
Attorney General Faris Al-Rawi, who returned to the Senate after being in isolation since April 27, piloted the Firearms Amendment Bill 2021 on Tuesday.
Al-Rawi said the bill would amend the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:01 to define pepper spray as “any inflammatory agent which when applied on the body of an individual may cause the mucous membranes in the eyes, nose, throat and lungs of the individual to become inflamed resulting in the immediate closing of the eyes, difficulty breathing, runny nose, and coughing.” ....

A total of 160 electronic tablets were distributed to primary school and other organisation recently as part of the programme to provide vulnerable children with equipment to access to remote education.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), in partnership with its non-profit partner, USA for IOM, and Citi TT, distributed the devices on February 10 and 11, according to a statement from IOM.
Through Office of Law Enforcement Policy, an agency in the Ministry of National Security, primary schools and non-governmental organisations were selected to benefit from the initiative to narrow the digital learning gap created by the covid19 pandemic. ....

THE MINISTRY of National Security’s Office of Law Enforcement Policy (OLEP) received 100 devices from Amalgamated Security Services as part of the ministry’s No Child Left Behind programme.
The programme was recently launched by National Security Minister Stuart Young, a release from the ministry said, and it originates OLEP’s Morvant/Laventille Initiative, a programme aimed at improving the quality of life of communities in east Port of Spain. ....

Minister of National Security launches the “No Child Left Behind” Programme
21/12/20 - Port of Spain: Today, Monday December 21, 2020 the Minister of National Security the Honourable Stuart R. Young M.P. officially launched the “No Child Left Behind” programme at a ceremony held at the Ministry of National Security, Port of Spain. This programme emanates from the Office of Law Enforcement Policy’s (OLEP) Morvant Laventille Initiative (MLI), which was created to improve the quality of life of communities in the East Port of Spain district, through the effective delivery of policing and other public services and programmes.
The “No Child Left Behind” programme was established to ensure that children in need from these communities are provided with the necessary equipment to access virtual learning during this challenging time brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
