Proposed City Budget Has Increased Funding For Police, Firefighters, Roadways

The pandemic caused shortfalls in the city budget that officials say could have resulted in drastic cuts to basic services and employee workforce. Federal funding from the American Rescue Plan, however, is a one-time allocation that will keep the budget stable. City officials released a proposed city budget Tuesday afternoon that they say focuses on fiscal stability. If passed, the budget would increase from $416 million to $461 million.
It prioritizes funding for public safety issues, roadways, 30 community council funding requests and human services.
The new fiscal year starts July 1, meaning City Council has until June 30 to approve a budget. ....

Cincinnati City budget for fiscal 2022 would see increase


No city departments are being cut. An earlier version mischaracterized the city budget proposal. 
City Manager Paula Boggs Muething s proposed operating budget, released Tuesday morning, amounts to $461 million for fiscal year 2022, up almost 11% from this year s $416 million.
It s buoyed with $67.5 million in federal stimulus money to make up for declining revenue due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, ensuring most city services remain as is.

After five years of water rate increases, approved by the council in 2016, the administration is seeking two more water rate increases. City water users would see a 3.75% rate increase Jan.1, 2022 and a 5.55% rate increase Jan. 1, 2023. The increase is needed to pay debt, replace lead lines and do deferred maintenance. The increases need City Council approval.  ....
