The sophomore set a new single-game school record with those 11 blocks. Other leaders on the night for Bad Axe were Kate Clancy with 9 points and Camryn Affer and Alexis Booms with 5 points each. Sophie Shuart had 4 points, Callie Engler and Claire Castle each chipped in 2, and Haley Newland and Madison Kinney each had 1 point.

The Bearcats are now 5-2 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Bad Axe girls hand USA first loss of season FacebookTwitterEmail SEBEWAING – The Bad Axe girls basketball team did something on Wednesday night that no other team had been able to accomplish in six previous tries this season: defeat the Unionville-Sebewaing Patriots. The Hatchets prevailed in what proved to be a defensive battle, holding off the Patriots in the final few minutes of the game for a 36-30 road victory. The Hatchets are now 5-1 on the season overall and 4-1 in conference play. The Patriots are 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the Greater Thumb West. Bad Axe started the first quarter with a 6-0 run, but the Patriots withstood the barrage and the game was soon knotted at 8-8. USA led 14-10 at the start of the second quarter, but the Hatchets hung tough and cut the lead to 18-16 by halftime. Bad Axe regrouped and ratcheted up its defense in the second half, holding a 26-25 lead going into the fourth quarter.
