A railway bridge in Wales has been raised away from rising river waters to prevent flooding on the track.
The bridge has been closed 30 times in the last decade and ten times in 2020 alone for emergency repairs caused by flood water. As such, the £3.6M project will significantly reduce disruption for passengers. ....

Network Rail said it is “one of the biggest environmental recovery efforts” it has ever been involved with.
The southern end of the Heart of Wales line, which runs from Shrewsbury to Swansea, has been closed since the incident last year when a 25-wagon freight train derailed and then caught fire.
This led to around 350,000l of diesel being spilled into the ground, causing major concerns for the surrounding wildlife conservation area and waterways.
30,000t of contaminated soil have been excavated from 150m of railway, at a depth of 2m and width of 20m. That soil has been replaced with new, clean material from quarries in Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire, with the fuel-soaked soil taken to a licensed waste management facility in Merthyr. ....
