Flooding in Alconbury still affecting residents

“I think because it was Christmas and they had skeleton staff working.
“Trying to find temporary accommodation with two dogs was really difficult and incredibly stressful.
As the flooding ripped through their home, it destroyed all of the downstairs flooring, and kitchen.
Lee said: “When the water was gone, the filth and stench was left behind, you cannot imagine the smell it makes.
“The kitchen and the furniture was totally contaminated, we have only just finished ripping out the door frames, last week.”

“We did a really big haul of the river that day and each had a canoe acting like a bumper truck, with kayaks all round it, picking the litter and we were all teams of less than six.

Officials at Kempton and the BHA moved quickly to schedule an all-weather card for jumps horses on Thursday after Friday s jumps meeting at the track was cancelled on Monday because of waterlogging.
The problems caused by Storm Darcy show no immediate sign of slowing and racing did not take place at Carlisle and Plumpton on Monday because of frost, while Kempton s jumpers bumper card on Tuesday is subject to an 8am inspection.
Officials at Taunton will also check at that time for racing later that afternoon in light of possible -3C temperatures on Monday night and Ludlow inspects at 11am on Tuesday for Wednesday s fixture, which is the only jumps action left standing after cancellations at Sedgefield, Fontwell and Fairyhouse, which raced on Monday when it was determined the inner track there was waterlogged. ....

Racing at Huntingdon Racecourse was cancelled for the second time in a month after flash flooding had hit the area.

Flooding has hit one part of Cambridgeshire once again as racing was cancelled for the second time in a month.
Aerial images have captured the extent of the deluge at Huntingdon Racecourse after the Alconbury Brook, which runs alongside the racecourse, burst its banks.
Some parts of the course were severely affected as officials were forced to abandon racing, just two weeks since they last cancelled due to flooding.
