Demolition on the building began last week in preparation for a single story office building to be constructed and leased to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The former high school’s gymnasium will become the new home for the Alpena Boys and Girls Club. ALPENA The COVID-19 pandemic was expected to throw a monkey wrench in local development. ALPENA Walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations will be available 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Alpena Mall for anyone aged 60 or older having trouble registering for a vaccination, health officials announced Tuesday. Moderna vaccinations will be available on a first come, first served basis to 200 residents of Alpena, Cheboygan, Montmorency or Presque Isle counties, according to Devin Spivey, epidemiologist for District Health Departments No. 2 and 4. Public health officials on Tuesday reported 11 newly infected or probably infected Northeast Michiganders, including eight Alpena County residents, two Presque Isle County residents, and one Montmorency County resident. ....
